For the first time in our sample, browsing on mobile devices has exceeded 10% of all browsing. This actually underestimates the total amount of browsing share on mobile devices, since our sample does not contain data on apps, like maps.
Windows 8 was released on October 26th, so our reports only contain six days of October. With this in mind, Windows 8 has risen to .41% of global desktop share.
With a gain of 1.9% last month, Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7 surpassed 50% usage share in the United States – reaching 51.7%. Worldwide, it gained 1.3% on Windows 7 reaching 40.3% usage share for the month of October.
Back in
February, we began adjusting our usage share numbers based on prerendering functionality in Chrome, which has been shown to inflate Chrome browsing usage share. In October, Chrome prerendering reached a high of 11.1% in our sample of websites - as compared to the initial 4.3% we saw in February when we began adjusting for prerendering.
